Sunday 13th October 2013 at Cromer Music Evenings

Manon Fischer-Dieskau - Piano

13th OCTOBER 2013
MANON FISCHER-DIESKAU - PIANO
Templewood, Northrepps

For the first concert of the 2013-14 series, Cromer Music Evenings presented Manon Fischer-Dieskau, a pianist who, as a soloist and accompanist, has performed at many Royal Academy of Music projects, such as the Beethoven Festival, the Austrian Cultural Institute and recitals at Wigmore Hall to name but a few.

Today at Templewood she performed a programme to honour her grandfather, the late Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

J S Bach’s Preludes and Fugues in D major from Book 1 of the ‘48’ were played with complete ease and control. In each fugue the subjects, counter subjects and answers were articulated in such a way to enhance the understandings of Bach’s polyphonic writings.

Mozart’s Sonata No 18 in D major K576 in three movements was sheer delight in performance with impeccable embellishments and tone gradations, with the Adagio being in pure Mozartian style.

Beethoven’s Sonata No 18 in E flat major op 31 No 3 required a different approach in performance with its four movements, each demanding diversity in technique, especially in the presto con fuoco!

Maurice Ravel’s Sonatine - impressionistic in style - was so beautifully played, mastering with ease the complexities of this work.

Scherzo No 4 in E major op 54 by Chopin, being in complete contrast, delighted the large audience who found it difficult to stop applauding! Truly a masterful performance.

To complete this wonderful recital, Fischer-Dieskau played four preludes by Rachmaninoff in G major op 32 No 5, B minor op 32 No 10, G sharp minor op 32 No 12 and in B flat major op 23 No 2.

A wonderful finale to this truly magnificent performance by this young pianist, but who is so very mature in interpretation. The programme states that she is "looking forward to an active and fulfilling performing career". I’m sure that everyone in the audience would agree that this will be so.
